Considering the theme of the week was "Why am I here?", you would think the Toastmasters meeting would take a dire turn. Not at Southport Toastmasters. Instead, it is an opportunity to show value for what we have and promote how far every member has come in their lifetime.

Introductions, a usual, were far from typical. Mr Gorgeous discussed how he is the ultimate gift to Toastmasters, dry Daniel is here for a speech and Daria is here because she wants to make a bigger impact. Indeed we all do. As Luke addressed, Toastmasters is all about upskilling. We are all here to grow and flourish.

"Like a skipping stone across the water" the topic for tonight could be left lightly touched or be delved into a little deeper. Regardless, an eventful showcase is planned. The next substantial activity is Table Topics, a segment that enables speakers to respond to a question on demand. One highlight among the many was Roy's speech, where he answered the question "What would you do if you couldn’t fail?" Roy explained how he wakes up every day asking himself this, so when his executive director sat next to him he felt nothing but confident…until the director told him his fly was undone.

Meeting 1145 was an icebreaker extravaganza, beginning with Daniel (a member of 5 years), thanks pathways! Daniel's speech was a beautiful story about how his parents have influenced his personality.

Brett, the Toastmaster, tells us about why he is here. The club junkie explains how he joined a men's group committee and was forced into the position of MC. Brett raced home to frantically Google "public speaking heeeeelp", and today he is a powerful, confident speaker. If you're feeling like you need some guidance, pop on in and say hi, we would love to meet you.
